Our History

Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya from its birth in 1974 has been catering to the cause of quality human resource development apart from rendering support towards better livelihood and agricultural economy.

The leadership of this agriculture development research and education have been steered by personalities graduating from Agriculture College at Jhargram founded by Dr. P.K. Sen and State College of Agriculture established at Ranikuthi in 1952 by Dr. B.C. Roy, the then Chief Minister of West Bengal. It acquired the name of Birla College of Agriculture with its relocation at Haringhata, Nadia in1958 which came under the jurisdiction of Kalyani University in 1960. The agriculture faculty yielded into Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, the first SAU in West Bengal in 1974.

This website also contains information and contributions from fallouts of Pallisiksha Sadan, Viswa- Bharati, Santiniketan established in 1963 and Uttar Banga Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Coochbehar.

Veterinary and Dairy Sciences Faculties also contributed to the grooming of the Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya till 1996. Agricultural Engineering became an integral part of education from the same time........................
